Last day on Maggie

A leisurely day today. A lie in (including the baby!) then a gentle stroll to the nearby beach of Alma Bay. Toby napped as we strolled waking up just in time for our picnic lunch. It’s a vey well organised place, with shade, picnic tables and a play area. There are also public bbqs everywhere! They are cleaned frequently and will used. This idea definitely needs to come to the UK!

We decided that a coffee was in order so headed across the road to the slightly snobby hotel. Clearly different clientele frequent this place… Then is was beach and swim time! Toby ate some sand and buried his feet. And we all went for a swim. Toby loved splashing in the waves, but got cold fairly quickly in the breeze so he went back to sand eating! Jamie and I took it in turns to swim in the bay. There is the wreckage of what we later learned was an old aeroplane which had been colonised by plant life. And we saw a couple of rays, camouflaged against the sand.

We had a very cold rinse off in the showers and got changed, before it was time for the compulsory beer and a wander back to the unit. We had a table booked at the infamous Man Fridays, an unusual texmex restaurant in Nelly Bay. While we were eating, some very screamy wading birds scurried around our feet. As Penny says, they make a noise like they’re being murdered! There are also possums running about, and the owner appears to know every possum and bird by name. Perfectly normal, I’m sure!

Back to the unit for an early night.
