An early start we were all out of the door by 8am and heading down to the jetty for a half day boat tour of the island with Aquascene.
Our guide for the day Adam met us on the jetty and we headed down to the boat. It was a very nice boat and had obviously been custom made for doing the type of tour that we were doing. There was only two other couples on board which was a nice small group.
Heading out around to the north side we cruised passed a number of the different bays and got a brief history off each one. Adam grew up on the island so was able to give us a unique perspective on things he remembers about its history.
Following us for party of the way was san Eagle. Adam shows us its skilled by tossing a fish into the air which it flew down and caught spectacularly.
The first mooring point was our opportunity to got for a snorkel around a edge reef. Ali and I took it in turns to go for a look around while the other entertained Toby. The sea had been a bit rough before so the visibility wasn’t crystal clear, but surpasses anything you would get in the UK. We both saw a number of different fish, many swimming right up to the boat to be fed.
Once everyone had had enough snorkelling we headed around next bay for our morning team break. While this was being prepared we took Toby out into the shallow water and he tried swimming. Not sure if he is a fan of salt water as it doesn’t taste the same as normal water.
Heading back to the harbour we stopped off at one of the first bays we passed to have a got at fishing. I’ve never really had a go at fishing so I though I should have a go. On my first attempt I caught two fish which was more than anyone else caught that day. The second one was quite catch apparently and would have been worth a lot to a real fisherman.
Finally we fished our tour back at Nelly Bay harbour and thoroughly enjoyed our trip.
After all the fun of the morning we set about cooking a BBQ on one of the shared BBQs in our complex. It was lovely, right next to one of the pools too which we used afterwards.
Back to the apartment for a quick Toby nap, before heading over to the closest hotel for a drink. This is the first time in Australia where we hadn’t felt that we welcome bringing Toby and we had one drink and some snacks and left.
