Off to Magnetic Island

Penny and Eric were off early this morning heading back to the farm. We got up and packed for our stay over at Magnetic Island.

A taxi picked us up at 1:30 and took us to the ferry terminal in time to take us on the 2:15 ferry to the island. We arrived and crossed the car park to One Bright Point apartment complex where we are staying.

After a small amount of faffing, we went for a walk around the village of Nelly Bay. We were staggered by how quiet it is here. Not only were there very few people around, but there are very few eateries and even fewer bars. A bit of an adjustment from Townsville! We did, however, find a lovely cafe called Scallywags which was pirate themed. Unusual and you’d think it would have been full of young twenty-somethings enjoying themselves, but their clientele was actually much more varied and largely older! It was also bring-your-own alcohol, which seems to be very common here, so Jamie enquirer as to the whereabouts of a bottle shop. The cafe has a bicycle for this specific purpose! It has a basket on the back and everything!

We had a lovely meal, Toby included, before setting off on the walk home. Toby did some excellent splashing in the bath with a sea view(!) and we put him to bed, hoping for a good night’s sleep…
