Namibia Day 6 – Windhoek

Relaxing start to the day. Lovely breakfast at a sensible time. Proper coffee! Made a plan for the day; return car, museum, lunch, shopping, dinner.

After a leisurely breakfast at the guesthouse we went back out to the car to check it over before we returned it. Somehow we had a forgotten how sandy it was and had to brush it out a bit before we wanted to get in with our clean clothes on. Back on the road for the last time down a couple of minutes across town back to the car hire place to return the car. Success, we hadn’t broken anything!

We wondered up into the town and found a nice cafe to have a drink. The cafe was situated what appeared to have been an old zoo and you could see many zoo bits still around. Luckily for us no lions to eat us while we were having coffee.

Next we we a very touristy thing and went to the Namibia Independance museum. This is a very impressive building in the middle of Windhoek that was opened in 2014, it’s not even in the lonely planet. This gave us some more details on this history of Namibia which was fascinating.

We wandered back to the cafe for lunch – seriously epic veggie curry! Then we decided to go shopping. There is an old brewery in the middle of Windhoek which has been converted to over 40 little shops for local traders to use. We wandered about looking for souvenirs. We were surprised by how many of the little shops would take a credit card for relatively little money. When we had exhausted ourselves shopping, we headed back to the guesthouse to pack and arrange our travel for the following morning. The flight is at 7am so a 4am start, yay.

We wandered back to town for dinner and could not find the restaurant that we were originally looking for so instead we ended up in an upmarket restaurant. We were definitely the scruffiest people there, but never mind! The food was excellent. Then we had to go back to the guesthouse for bed. Stupid early start!
