Safari Day 7 – Goodbye Botswana

Waking up this morning on the middle of a salt pan was amazing. We chose to all be up at 5:15 to take in the stars after the moon had gone down. It was amazing. No light pollution and being able to see so many stars was mesmerising. It turns out Joe is pretty good at stars and was pointing out all of the different star constellations to us.

As the sun started to come up we packed down our tents for the last time and had our breakfast while the sun rose in front of us. Just beautiful.

It was back into the truck for the final push towards Kasane which was about 350km away. Everyone seemed to sleep for most of the way back. Sitting in a truck and eating well for a week will do that to you.

We arrived back into Kasane at noon and said our goodbyes to Joe, Lucienne and Aaron. It has been a fantastic trip away with these guys and I’m sure we will miss them on our next section of the trip.

Someone came to collect us at 2pm and we travelled back to Zambia and arrived at Fawlty Tower hotel at 4. Once unpacked we tried to got out to the falls again because we had been told that they would be open for viewing in the moonlight, but when we arrived there was no one around security guard said he would let us in for a bribe. We politely declined and went back to town. For dinner we went to the local Italian restaurant that was recommended in the lonely planet. Very good pizza and we drank lots of beer.

Back at the hotel we were both knackered so went to bed at about 9pm. Let’s hope we actually sleep though till 8am.
