Luck in Livingstone

What a day! Waking up this morning and thinking we’d just see how the day panned out worked really well for us! After breakfast, we got the bus to Victoria Falls. After a slight recalculation of how many dollars we had and a trip to the bank, we headed into Victoria Falls National Park.

We explored the park all morning and views were incredible. Then Jamie plucked up the courage to ask how to get out to Livingstone Island. Phone calls we’re made and it was agreed. We met a 3pm and were guided through one of the very posh hotels to where the boat would leave from. The captain told us that the trip we thought were on was full of a private tour group, and that, although it didn’t usually happen, if possible, he would take us when he got back. We waited, with a customary gin and tonic, and he did indeed come back for us.

As the sun lowered in the sky, we set out across the Zambezi. Traversing the vast expanse of water was a feat in itself. On arrival on Livingstone Island, we changed into swim suits and headed out across the rocks. We swam out to near the so called Devil’s Pool. It is impossible to describe how close we were to the edge of the falls at the point. Hopefully the photos will show you! Climbing into the pool felt like wading to the edge of the world. Many photos and much amazement later, we swam back to the island.

Disaster – the wrist strap for the GoPro broke! The Zambezi had taken the camera! The guides that we were with sprang into action. By some miracle, they found the camera caught on a rock at the bottom of the river! How lucky were we?! After a customary G&T, we headed back to the mainland. Just wow!

Dinner in a local restaurant and a seat round a fire to round off a perfect (and very lucky!) day!
